JAMES HORACE DAVIS ("Big Jim")

"This community was shocked Wednesday afternoon when it became known that one of its fellow townsmen had taken his own life. Upon inquiry at the home it was learned that he had not been in good health for a long time, and since his return from Spearfish and other points that he had been confined to his home and to his bed most of the time since the 12th of May. Wednesday morning he did not seem as well as usual and remarked to his wife that he feared paralysis was creeping upon him, and if such might be the case that he wanted to die at once. He persuaded his wife to go up town after dinner to attend to some business for him and it was at this time he committed the rash act, being alone at the time. Upon Mrs. Davis's return home she found the door locked and calling to Will Davis who was at the barn they forced entrance to the house only to find her husband breathing his last.

"Big Jim", as he was familiarly called, has been a prominent figure on our streets for years and was a man possessing good qualities, a good friend of everyone and always ready to help in case of sickness.
The wife and relatives have the sincere sympathy of the community in their dark hour of sorrow.
Jim Davis was born in Eagleville, Missouri, 49 years, 6 months, 9 days ago and came to Wyoming about 30 years ago, where he followed stockraising.

He was married to Mrs. F.C. Vest in 1902, and besides his wife he leaves to mourn their loss, his father, J.W. Davis of Upton, his mother, Mrs. L.E. Paxton of Kara Mountain, a sister, Mrs. Amos Cook of Upton, and a brother, Will Davis of Kara Mountain, two stepsons, Ray, now in France and Floyd on the way home.

Funeral services were conducted at the M.E. church Thursday afternoon by Rev. C.W. Barnes of Sundance and interment was made in Greenwood cemetery."-Upton Gazette.

Jim, I told you that you didn't have to do it but I believe that I am able to understand why. Sleep now in eternal peace.
