Bradley, Julius C.-- CIVIL WAR VETERAN --Macedonia, Ia.--
Company G IL 10th, INF-enlisted in the Union Army from Terre Haute Twp., Henderson Co. Illinois.
His daughter, Roxie Bradley, in a letter to her niece, Nora Cleone Gonser Hale, wrote that her father joined the army in 1861, at the age of 17, carrying an old musket. During the war, he contracted measles that badly impaired his vision and he was discharged. He later received army disability. According to the 1882 History of Pottawattmie County, Iowa, Julius enlisted on Jan. 1, 1862 and served two years, three months.
Julius was the son of Elliott C. Bradley and Mahala(Mahaley) Jane Foy, born in New York, who settled in Illinois. He married Mary Elizabeth Carle on 06 Feb. 1868 in Knoxville, Marion Co., Iowa. They had 8 children: George Ellion(1869-1870),Clarence Wilbur, Armina Malissa, Francis Eugene, Nora Geneva, Roxy, Louetta(or Lou Etta), and Daisy Myrtle. The family moved in 1871 close to Hastings in Mills Co. but on 22 Feb. 1876, came to Pottawattamie Co. and settled on a farm just west of Macedonia. Julius farmed and raised stock and in 1907, served as marshal of Carson. He was an Odd Fellow and in politics, a Republican. His wife Mary was active in the Christian Church. She died 19 June 1909 and is buried with Julius in Macedonia Cemetery. On 21 Feb. 1910, Julius married Lydia Mullen Roberson b. Ohio 03 May 1846, also of Macedonia, at Council Bluffs. She was the widow of John C. Roberson and daughter of David Mullen/Mullin of Quaker ancestry. Julius died in 1919. Lydia died 26 Dec. 1928.
