Elizabeth Anna Warther was the youngest child born to Godfrey and Elizabeth Anna Haney Warther. She was born exactly one month after her father died of pneumonia. Little is known of her early years as the family struggled to survive on whatever her mother could earn. As the children grew they helped in any way they could.
As a young woman, Anna and Carl Meese were part of a group of young people in Dover who enjoyed picnics and other outdoor activities. On August 14, 1909, when Anna was 21 and Carl was 22, they were married in the Warther home.
Six children born to Elizabeth Anna Warther Meese and Carl Earl Meese: Ruth Ellen, John Walter, Robert Frederick, George Edward, William Herbert, and Josephine Ann. William died when less than two years old.
When all the children were grown, Carl bought a place about five miles from Dover, with about an acre of land. It needed a lot of work to make it livable, but over time and with the help of their family, the place blossomed. They had gardens for vegetables and flowers, trees for fruit and berry bushes. "The Farm" became the gathering place for family and friends.
After Carl died in 1968, Anna continued to live on the farm, but it was worrisome for her children, because of the distance from town.
By 1976, age required her to move into her daughter Ruth's home, where she stayed for over a year. She died 1 Feb. 1978.
