Irene Ecklein, 65, died in Mesa, AZ on November 17, 1972 while visiting friends. The Eckleins wintered in Arizona and had recently gone to Mesa for the winter months. It was while visiting in the home of Mr. and Mrs. Arnold Stensgaard that Mrs. Ecklein became ill. Though emergency equipment was used, she did not regain consciousness.

In 1930, she married Wallace Ecklein and the couple lived in St. Paul. In 1942, they moved to Arlington SD, where she and her husband operated a bakery for 30 years.
