Hubert Nathan Buchanan was fourth of the nine children of his parents, Moses Campbell Buchanan, Jr. and Martha Annie Springfiefd Buchanan. His family moved from Robertson County, Texas, to Pecos, Reeves County, Texas, where his father was a farmer and raised cantaloupes. Hubert married and he and his spouse, Maude, had two daughters who lived to be adults and had families of their own.
