Gerald "Bud" Burgwin, 87, of Syracuse, passed away Monday, April 1, 2013 at Crouse Hospital surrounded by his loving family. He was born on June 2, 1925 in Quincy, Massachusetts. Bud was a WWII Navy veteran. He grew up on the North side and was a communicant of St. John the Baptist Church and later St. Peter's Church. Bud was the owner and operator of his own service station "Bud's Gulf" for most of his working years and later retired from Onondaga County. Throughout his life, he was an avid bowler and softball player until the age of 83. Bud played second base for the Senior Cyclones Softball World Series Championship Team of 2000. Anyone who knew Bud, knew that he was a devoted New York Yankees fan until the very end.
He is survived by his loving wife of 61 years, Frances (Scripa) Burgwin; six children, LouAnn (Jim) Darlington, Michael (Julie) Burgwin, Steven (Karen) Burgwin, Jerry (MarySue) Burgwin, Diane (George) Moon and Mark (Jamie) Burgwin; thirteen grandchildren; a sister, Betty Cavelli; a sister-in-law, Mary Burgwin; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, April 5, 2013, 9 a.m. at the THOMAS J. PIRRO JR. FUNERAL HOME with a funeral mass in honor of Bud's life following at 10 a.m. in Our Lady of Pompei/St. Peter Church, 301 Ash Street, Syracuse. Burial will follow at St. Agnes Cemetery, 2315 South Avenue, Syracuse. Family and friends may call at the THOMAS J. PIRRO JR. FUNERAL HOME, 3401 Vickery Rd. (corner of Buckley Rd.) North Syracuse, on Thursday, April 4, 2013 from 5 to 7 p.m.
Bud's family extends heartfelt thanks to the doctors, nurses and staff of Crouse Hospital and Loretto/Fahey Rehabilitation Center for the exceptional care and compassion provided over the years.
