Taimi Lyyli Halm (neé Hirvonen) was born in Pielisjärvi, North Karelia, Finland as the fourth child of Johan "Juho" and Eeva Maria "Mari" Hirvonen. She had seven siblings youngest of which was an illegimate son of her mother born during a time when Johan was away a lot because of his profession.

Her father Juho was originally from Kiihtelysvaara and her mother Eeva Maria was born in Kaavi. Juho Hirvonen worked as a railroad builder (he took care an used the explosives) and because of his profession the Hirvonen family moved a lot from place to another and they lived in many regions.

Taimi met her forthcoming husband Eino Aleksander Halm in Eino's childhood home where the Hirvonen family lived on rent after the death of the father Halm in the late 1920's. Eino's mother Amanda couldn't continue the keep the shop, so other half of the big building was transfered to a tenement.

Eino and Taimi were wedded on the 11th of April 1932 in the Nastola Church. Their first daughter Seija Marita Halm was born on the 23rd of September 1935 and she got a brother, Helge Alpo Volmar Halm, two years later on the 27th of August 1937.

The youngest child, a daughter Birgit Hellevi Halm, was born on the 4th of April 1941. The Second World War had broke out in the 1939 but Eino received an exemption from the service because his ulcer. The ulcer was Eino's biggest health problem from a young age and it finally caused his death at the age of 61. Eino however helped to keep control in the home front as every man not recruited to the actual front. He e.g. did air monitoring in the Lahti area.

His drinking habits probably didn't do any help to the ulcer and because of his drinking Taimi separated from her husband in the beginning of the 1950's. Their divorce was filed on the 18th of July 1958 but the couple had lived separated for a long time. Helge and Birgit moved to live with their mother Taimi but the eldest daughter Seija decided that she wanted to live with her father with whom she came along better. This soured Taimi's and Seija's relation and they had their difficulties from there on.

Taimi worked as a conductor in a bus and later on she also had a kiosk. After the separation she lived in the kiosk with Helge, Birgit and her mother Eeva Maria who had moved to Lahti after the death of Juho Hirvonen in the 1940's. Later on Taimi lived on rent in Lahti and she had a partner who was many years her junior. Even though the relationship ended in the 1960's (after the death of his former husband), she went to the funeral of Eino Halm held in Kotka in the year 1965. Her picture was found from Eino's wallet and surely the couple was happy at least before Eino started drinking. And Taimi had a great sense of humour.

Taimi Halm lived in Lahti until her death at the age of 79 on the 10th of May 1990. She was greatly missed by her closest relatives and friends. Taimi was buried to the grave of her mother at the Lepo Cemetery, Lahti, Paijanne Tavastia, Finland.
