John ran a small dairy farm in Ferndale, and owned working shares in several Plywood mills.
John would at times go on prospecting trips to visit the mine his father found. It was the Boundary Red Mountain Gold Mine ledge, located just south of the border on the north slope of Red Mountain. It was to prove the second richest free-milling gold mine in the Mt. Baker District. The family lost control of the mine.
John m. in 1937, he and Joyce had six children; Alfred, Wilfred, Mary Vivian, Edwin, Gilbert and Donald.
After Joyce died, John remarried, to Chris, and moved to the mid-west, where he died and is buried, but a memorial service and stone were established near Ferndale, and the home farm he bought in 1925.
