Nora came from a family of doctors and preachers. Her grandfather, Thomas D. Weems, was an Episcopal pastor. Her brother, Arthur Weems, was also a pastor. Her uncles, Dr. Charles Weems and Dr. Elwood Weems were physicians in Illinois.
As a small child, Nora Weems moved from Kansas with her immediate family to Ottumwa, Iowa, where her father, James, worked at the local brick plant for over 25 years. She graduated from Ottumwa High School. At the age of 24, she married Charles Walter Brockman on January 31, 1920.
Charlie was a building inspector for the City of Ottumwa and Nora was a homemaker. They had two children, John David Brockman (1921-1999) and Jean Marie Brockman Matheus (1923-1959).
Nora was widely known and liked in her community. She was a member of the First Presbyterian church, of the Mizpah circle of The King's Daughters, and of the Ottumwa chapter No. 112, Order of Eastern Star.
Nora died at home of a sudden and very unexpected heart attack a week before her 49th birthday. Her son, John, was serving overseas at the time in England, waiting for D-Day. As she was the center and rock of the family circle, everyone was devastated by her death.
The pastor giving her eulogy said that she was one of the kindest persons he knew and that he was always made to feel so very much welcomed in her home.
