Maston P. Box

Birth: 1823
Paulding County
Georgia, USA
Death: 1863, USA

Maston was a son of Jonathan and Elizabeth Box and was born in GA. Several members of the Jonathan Box family moved to MO in the 1840s. Maston met and married Lucinda (Unknown) and had several children, including Sarah J (b. 1845), Martin W. (b. 1850), James R. (b. 1857) and Lucinda (b. 1861).

According to his Civil War military records, Maston P. Box served in the Confederacy, enlisting as a Private at Camp Horseshoe, MO (date on Military Record Form says 1862, but unsure about this being correct). He served with the 8th Bn., Mo. Infantry, Co. B out of Wayne Co., MO.

He attained the rank of Corporal, but was captured by the Union Army at Fredericktown on October 21, 1861 and sent to the Military Prison at Alton, IL.

In Sept., 1862 he was sent to Vicksburg "for Ex." which I assume meant he was to be exchanged for Union prisoners there. He last appears as present on the roll of January 31, 1863, but never returned to his family and it was assumed he had died.

His actual burial place is unknown.
