Dod was the oldest of two sons born to Schuyler Buell Brandt, Sr. and Marjorie Hammond Greene in Evanston, IL. He graduated from West Point in 1949 and was commissioned as an officer in the AF. He completed pilot training and flew bombing missions in the Korean War, and later was a part of SAC. After graduating from the U of Michigan w/ 2 masters degrees in engineering, he worked on the early US missile and space program, and later at NASA as Asst Launch Operations Director for Unmanned Vehicles at Cape Kennedy. He spoke fluent French, Russian, and Japanese. He married Crill Elizabeth (Davis)of Panama City, Fl. They had 3 daughters.
