Amanda Katherine Barnett, "Momaw Kate," 97, of Charleston, went on her final journey, peacefully at home, Sunday, June 20. She is reunited with her husband, Elben, who passed in 1999.

She was born Oct. 10, 1917 in Rainelle to the late Mark and Lula Crookshanks.

In addition to her husband and parents, her twin brother, Tip; brothers, Ira, Sam and Ed; sisters, Icie, Sallie and Nellie; great-grandchild, Carley; and great-great-grandchild, Landon, preceded her in death.

Sister, Thelma Gibney, of South Charleston, survives her. Surviving children: Raymond and wife, Elizabeth Barnett, of South Charleston, Don Barnett and Joyce McGough of Charleston and Barbara and husband, Jesse Harrison, of Charleston; grandchildren: Greg and Carlye Barnett, Eric and Peggy Barnett of South Charleston, Renne and Mark Young of New Oxford, Pa., Tammy and Joe Stephens of Charleston, Katie and Chris Underwood of Asheboro, N.C., and C.R. III and Amy Damron of Tornado. She had15 surviving great-grandchildren: Corrie and Heath Whittington of Dunbar, Christina and Jamie Marble of Charleston, Elizabeth Barnett of South Charleston, Erica Barnett of South Charleston, Amanda and Chris Holland of Columbia, S.C., Ryan Young of New Oxford, Pa., Emily-Ann Stephens of Pittsburgh, Pa., Sammi and Reagan Underwood of Asheboro, N.C., Katelyn, Shelby, C.R. IV, Wyatt, Montana and Dakota Damron of Tornado. ?She was also blessed to have five great-great-grandchildren, Layla, Abigail, Jameson, Landry and Presley.

Service will be 1 p.m. Thursday at Good Shepherd Mortuary, South Charleston. Burial will be in Cunningham Memorial Park, St. Albans.

Friends may call two hours prior to the service at the mortuary.

The family would like to thank all of the people who helped with her care: the staffs at Hospice, Mountaineer Home Care, The Traveling Physicians of Huntington and Covenant Home Care. An extra special thank you to Pam Huffman, that Momaw loved like her own.
