Marquis de Lafayette "Marcus" Kellogg
Learn about sponsoring this memorial...
Birth: May 21, 1789
Berkshire County
Massachusetts, USA
Death: Aug. 9, 1875
Benton County
Iowa, USA

His father served in the Revolution and apparently was in battles with Marquis de Lafayette as a leader. That would explain the name he gave his son. His son, apparently, was not fond of his name and was known as Marcus or Marquis which has made finding him in genealogies more difficult. One of his sons, Silas Kellogg, is my ancestor and if it had not been for family stories, I would not have known of Marquis de Lafayette Kellogg. Following the revolution, this branch of Kellogg moved to Illinois and then Ohio and his death is recorded as 9 Aug 1875 in Eldorado Benton IA.
