BARGERSVILLE ~ Little Bernice Blackwell died at the home of her grandparents, Will Clark and wife, Friday night at ten o’clock. She was buried near Providence in the Harris cemetery.

The Franklin Democrat, Friday, January 22, 1897, Volume XXXVII, Number 28, page 3, column 1

BARGERSVILLE ~ While absent from our neighborhood about four or five weeks, we returned with sadness in our hearts to find three little buds of hope lifted by our blessed Savior from this unfriendly world to that brighter and better place where sorrow and sadness never comes. Fannie Marie, little daughter of George Echols and wife, died Dec. 16, age about two years. Bernice, little daughter of Marshall Blackwell and wife, died Jan 8, age about 4 years. Nelda, daughter of Chas. Park, died Jan 12, age about four years. There are three more bright jewels placed in the crown of glory.

The Franklin Democrat, Friday, February 12, 1897, Volume XXXVII, Number 31, page 3, column 4

In Memoriam.

Little Willie Bernice Blackwell was born December 2, 1892, and died Feb. 8, 1897, at the home of her grandparents, Wm. and Mattie Clark, aged four years, one month and six days. Bernice was a sweet little girl, affectionate and loving for one so young, but she has left us never to return.

We miss thee so sadly, dear Bernice,
Our home is so lonely tonight,
Thy spirit has gone and left us
To dwell with the angels of light.

But we look from this vale of sorrow,
To that heaven where partings are o’er
To a fairer, a brighter tomorrow,
Just across on the other shore.

Bargerville, Ind. GRANDMA C.

Note: The Johnson County Indiana WPA Birth Index, 1882–1920, referencing Book H-3, page 4, records that a white female infant was born to Marshall Blackwell and Maggie Clark on 2 Dec 1892.
