Leslie "Les' Caldwell was born on Apr. 9, 1929 in Owen Co., Kentucky. He was the son of Everett Caldwell (1879-1946) and Maggie Lee Pike (1905-1956), the fifth of their nine known children.

His father Everett was born in Grant Co., KY, his mother Maggie in Adair Co., KY. Both died in Boyle Co., KY and are buried in the Russell Cemetery located in that county.

Everett's parents were James William Caldwell (1837-1913) and Mary Louisa Kinman (1848-1910). Both were natives of Grant Co., KY.

Maggie's parents were Barnett Green Pike (1865-1918) and Lilla Belle "Lillie" Page (1875-1946). Barnett was born in Adair Co., KY, Lillie in Taylor Co., KY.

Les married Minnie Frances King (1934-1983) in Parksville, Boyle Co., KY about 1955. She was the daughter of Herstle King (1915-1997) and Ollie Pearl "Polly" Hillard (1915-1992). Minnie lost her life in an auto accident in 1983 at the age of 49.

Minnie's paternal grandparents were Thomas Letcher King (1881-1973) and Minna Susan "Minnie" Gooch (1873-1971). Her maternal grandparents were Benjamin Franklin "Ben" Hillard (1882-1929) and Ira Mathie Mae Hillard (1888-1929).

Les, a veteran of the Korean War, died on Apr. 4, 1998 in the Veteran's Hospital in Lexington, KY at the age of 68. He was buried in the Buffalo Springs Cemetery. The cemetery is located in Stanford, KY where he made his residence during his latter years.

Les was a good Christian man who dearly loved his wife and family. For many years he worked along side his wife's father Herstle on the King family farm located on Tennessee Ridge in Parksville, Boyle Co., KY. He was honest, hardworking and dependable. Always good-natured, Les treated those around him with respect and was well-liked by all who knew him.



Services for Leslie Caldwell, 68, of Lancaster Street, will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at Fox Funeral Home by the Rev. Stanley Young. Burial will be in Buffalo Springs with military rites by Caswell Saufley Post 18, American Legion. He died Saturday at Veterans Administration Hospital, Lexington. He was a resident of Stanford, KY.

Born April 9, 1929, in Owen County, he was a son of the late Everett and Maggie Pike Caldwell. He was a farmer and construction worker. He was an Army veteran of the Korean War, a member of Parksville Knob Baptist Church and the widower of Minnie King Caldwell.

Survivors include two sons, Robert H. Caldwell and Eddie Carter, both of Stanford; two daughters, Wanda Rowe of Wheelwright and Kathy Collett of Lexington; a foster son, Billy Reed of Lexington; a foster daughter, Betty Southworth of Lexington; a brother, Billy Joe Caldwell of Danville; two sisters, Lucille Hilton and Pearlie Belcher, both of Danville; and eleven grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Johnny and Donnie King, Danny and Gary Caldwell, Jamie Wayne, Brian Gooch, Allen Hilton and Ricky Belcher. Honorary pallbearers are Joe and Robin Crain and employees of Durhams Grocery.
