Mary Ellen Shaw was born in 1922. She was the daughter of North Carolina natives, James Earl Shaw (1892-1975) and Mary Susan "Sudie" Cook (1983-1968), both buried in the Oakwood Cemetery located in Melbane, Alamance Co., North Carolina.

Mary Ellen's father, James, was the son of James Thomas Shaw (1858-1925) and Barbara Ellen Albright (1866-1953). Both of Mary Ellen's parents were born in Alamance Co., NC, lived and died there. They are buried in Alamance in Hawfields Cemetery, located in Mebane.

Mary Ellen's mother, Sudie, was the daughter of North Carolina natives, Jarette Lucas Cook (1855-1900) and Nancy Margaret Nicholson (1860-1907). Both where born in North Carolina and are buried there in the Hebron Methodist Church Cemetery located in Alamance County.

On Dec. 27, 1946, in Alamance Co., NC, Mary Ellen married Burrell Clarence "Pete" Boyles Jr. (1922-2003). A WWII US Army veteran, his parents were Burrell Clarence "Burrell/BC" Boyles Sr. (1894-1989) and Sallie Ruth Cobb (1894-1985). Pete and Mary Ellen were married for 57 years and had two known children, Susan Ruth Boyles (1955- ) and Mary Carolyn Boyles (1955- ), both born in Gibsonville, Guilford Co., NC.

Pete's paternal grandparents were Dr. Augustus Clingman "AC" Boyles (1867-1936) and Anna Eliza "Annie" Coggin (1862-1814). His paternal great-grandparents were Rev. Marcus Wrightman "M.W." Boyles (1842-1892) and Susannah Alice "Susan" Wood (1846-1895). Pete's paternal GG-grandparents were Rev. Josiah Adolphus Boyles (1816-1894) and Mary Elizabeth "Annie" Yount (1819-1905) and his paternal, GGG-grand-parents, Rev. John Boyles II (1770-1843) and Margaret Whitaker (1765-1844).

Mary Ellen's husband, Pete, died on Dec. 16, 2005 in Burlington, Alamance Co., NC at the age of 81. He is buried in Alamance Memorial Park in Mebane, Alamance Co., NC.

Mary Ellen died on Dec. 2, 2012 in North Carolina at the age of 90. She too, is buried in Alamance Memorial Park, next to her husband, Pete. Nice people.
