Funeral services were held for Carl V. Holtman, 74, of Aitkin on Wednesday, Oct. 21 at 2 p.m. at the First Lutheran church with Pastor A.Wallace Carlson officiating. Mr Holtman passed away at the Aitkin Community Nursing Home on Sunday Oct. 18. Rev. Evold Olsenius sang "Behold, A Host" and "My Hope is Build on Nothing Less." with Mrs. Robert Orazem, organist. Pallbearers werre Andy Newton, Ernest Peason, Carl Holngren, Oscar Jacobson, Mel Forsberg and Glen MacDonald. Interment was in Lakeview cemetery. Sorensen-Root Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
Mr Holtman was born in Varmland, Sweden, Jan. 24,1890. He came from Sweden to Minneapolis with his parents at the age of 12. On Oct. 9, 1912, in Minneapolis, he married the former Celia Elizabeth Swanson. He operated a grocery business in Minneapolis for over 50 years, retiring in February of 1949. In December of 1949, they moved to Aitkin where they made their home until the time of his passing.
Mr Holtman was a member of the First Lutheran Church of Aitkin and the Churchmen of the church. He was a member of the Calvary Lutheran church, Minneapolis, while living therre.
Survivors include his wife, Celia, two daughters: (Bernice) Mrs. Evold Olsenius, Bellingham, Wash., and (Harriet) Mrs. Donald MacGregor, Aitkin; one sister, Mrs Lena Danielson, Salem, Ore., five grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
