SNYDER (Special) - Services for Ben Joel Dickey, 78, of Snyder will be at 4 p.m. Saturday in Bell-Cypert-Seale Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Aeron C Oden, pastor of Union Baptist Church, and the Rev. Jim Mosley officiating. Burial will be in Hillside Memorial Gardens. Dickey died Thursday, June 5, 1997, in Windcrest Alzheimer's Care Center in Abilene.
He was born July 17, 1918, in Clarksville. He married Dorothy Mavis Terry on Oct. 22, 1938, in Rotan. She died Jan. 16, 1985. He married Lucille Terry Lear in May 1985 in Sweetwater. He was a member and deacon of Union Baptist Church in the Union Community. He moved to Snyder in 1934, and he was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II. He worked in the maintenance department for the Snyder Independent School District for 23 years.
Survivors include his wife; three daughters, Janice Bullard of Pflugerville, Tammy Dickey of Abilene and Shirley Newman of Snyder; two sons, Jerry Dickey of Big Spring and Preston Dickey of Irving; two stepdaughters, Neva Clark and Stella Bowman, both of Monahans; two stepsons, Charles Lear of Snyder and James Lear of Monahan; three brothers, Guinn of Mineola, Homer of Largo and Johnny of Midland; a sister, Luella Shawe; four grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. The family suggests memorials to Windcrest Alzheimer's Care Center, 6050 Hospital Drive, Abilene 79605.
