OBITUARY Iron River Reporter June 27 1939 "LeRoy Burial Will Be Held On Wednesday: Pioneer Dies Monday Morning Following Stroke"
STAMBAUGH-Burial services for Mrs. Clara LeRoy, pioneer resident of the community who died Monday morning following a stroke, will be held at 9:00 a.m. Wednesday morning from St. Agnes church in Iron River.
Mrs. LeRoy was 66 years old. She was born July 16, 1873 in Manistique, Michigan. For six years she lived in California and Oregon, then moved to Mattawa, Canada, where she attended a convent until graduated at the age of 18 years.
In June of 1891 Mrs. LeRoy was married. She moved to Michigamme and Champion where she lived for three years and in 1894 moved to Iron River.
Her husband died in 1905. Mrs. LeRoy then purchased the LeRoy hotel from Stegmiller. She managed the institution until it burned on December 1, 1907. Undismayed, Mrs. LeRoy purchased the old Stambaugh school building and conducted a hotel on that site until 1935 when she was stricken with paralysis and disabled.
For the past four years she has been invalided.
Mrs. LeRoy is survived by three brothers, James N. Smith of Chicago, Joseph B. Smith of Sacramento, California, W. Wellington Smith of Los Angeles; and a sister, Mrs. William Reitmeyer of Stambaugh.
The body now lies at the Buchanan Funeral home in Iron River. Rosaries will be said this evening by the Women's Catholic Order of Foresters at 7:00 p.m., by the Daughters of Isabella at 7:30 p.m., and the Knights of Columbus at 8:00 p.m.
Mrs. LeRoy was a member of the St. Agnes Altar society, chief ranger of the W.C.O.F. and a Red Cross worker during the World War.
The body will lie in state at the funeral home until Wednesday morning.
The women of St. Agnes Altar society will recite the rosary at 7:30 p.m.

A resident of the west side district for 45 years, Mrs. Clara LeRoy, 66, was buried in Stambaugh cemetery Wednesday morning following a requiem high mass at St. Agnes church.
Mrs. LeRoy died at her home in Stambaugh early Monday following an illness of four years. She was the widow of the late Dave LeRoy.
Pallbearers were Ovid Jolly, William E. Hansen, Silvio Gasperini, Joseph Murphy, J.H. Nettle, and Jack Eddy.
Honorary pallbearers were the following members of the Women's Catholic Order of Foresters to which Mrs. LeRoy belonged: Mrs. Agnes Konwinski, Mrs. Elizabeth Cox, Mrs. Catherine Cybulski, Mrs. Phyllis Hubert and Mrs. Iris Burns.
The body lay in state at the Buchanan Funeral home until the time of services.
