Daughter of Joseph Chapline, Sr. and Ruhama Williams Chapline.

"Joseph Chapline, Jr., and his wife had no children, but other family members filled their home [Mount Pleasant]. Records indicate that Joseph's two spinster sisters Sarah and Jane lived with them." - Patricia Schooley, Architectural & Historic Treasures of Washington County, Maryland, (Washington County Historic Trust).

"House occupied by Sara and Jane Chapline and in which they died, was second door from North Mechanic St. Sharpsburg, and situated on Main St. It was burned and with it most of the family records of their father, Joseph Chapline, Sr." - Maria J. Liggett Dare (Mrs. J.Z. Dare), 1902 "The Chaplines of Maryland and Virginia", page 25.

"Sarah Chapline died 1834 single buried in Lutheran grave-yard." - John Philemon Smith, "Reminiscences of Sharpsburg" 1912.
