FINAL RITES HELD FOR GEORGE BRUCE

Final rites were held for George Robert Bruce, former Wasta resident, who died at Sturgis, Friday, at the Behrens Mortuary, Tuesday at 2 p.m.

Rev. Rew Walz of the Presbyterian church conducted the services and music was furnished by members of the Presbyterian church choir. Burial was in Mountain View cemetery.

Bob, as he was known to all his friends, was born June 5, 1884, at Scotland, South Dakota, and came to Pennington County in 1889, living with his parents, near Wasta. He was married in Rapid, December 22, 1909 to Mary Lessard. They made their home for several years on a ranch near Wasta and later moved into town, where he ran a livery stable. He was a Standard Oil agent in Wasta for twenty-nine years and retired in June 1949. In August, 1951, he and his family moved to Greeley, Colorado where they lived until June 1953, when he and Mrs. Bruce moved to Sturgis because of his health. He belonged to the Masonic Lodge in Rapid City. He was one of the first members of the IOOF, Wasta Lodge 195 at Elm Springs and retained his membership until his death.

Survivors include his wife, a daughter, Mrs. Edith Kindsvater and three grand children of Greeley, Colorado; three sister, Mrs. Cathern Terrill, Spokane, Washington; Mrs. E. D. Swinehart and Christy Bruce, Rapid City; one brother, Joe, Wasta and four neices and one nephew.

Active pallbearers were Homer Jensen and Robert Marsden, Wall, Russell Meiners and Elmer, Wasta, John Martin and Raymond Caudle, Sturgis. Honorary pallbearers were Manny Sundquist, Sturgis; Louis Jensen and Gordaon Marsden, Wall; Orrin Gishwiller, John and Albert Trople, Jake Rogers and Joe Marousek, Wasta. Masonic rites were held at the cemetery.
