OBIT:

LEROY ARINGTON

Leroy Paul Arington, 85, died July 27, 2002, at his home in Kittitas. He was born in Humboldt, Neb. on Dec. 29, 1916, the youngest of four children of Tildon J. and Etta (Record) Arington.

In his younger years, Paul enjoyed hunting, fishing and trapping. At the age of 21, he joined the Civilian Conservation Corps, serving for two years. During this time, in Beaver City, Neb. he met his future wife, Jean Martin. They were married on Nov. 14, 1933, and spent the last 62 years as husband and wife.

Following service with the CCC, he worked as a farmer and laborer until 1950, when he moved his young family to Missouri where he was employed with the Ash Grove Lime Kiln, continuing to farm during this employment. In June 1965, fulfilling a longtime dream, he moved his family to the state of Washington, and in 1966, the family moved to the city of Kittitas. He was employed by the Kittitas School District before joining the workforce at Central Washington State College, now Central Washington University in the housing department until retirement in 1974. Following retirement, Paul and Jean enjoyed many years of traveling in their motor home.

Paul truly enjoyed woodworking. After the purchase of their home in Kittitas, he completely remodeled the home. The beautiful cabinetwork in the kitchen is a tribute to the talents he possessed as a carpenter. He was a member of the Kittitas Community Church and the Masonic Order, Mount Olive Lodge in Rogersville, Mo.

Paul Arington lived his life to the best of his ability. He taught his children many valuable lessons in life. He set examples for them to learn from and guided them in lessons of love, respect, giving them good work and life ethics and maybe best of all, he taught them to laugh and they shall all carry many fond memories of growing up in a family that no matter what the crisis, there can still be laughter.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Virgil Arington; and a sister, Mildred Johnson.

The great joy and pride in Paul's life was his family. He was the father of six children, with 13 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. Survivors in addition to his wife, Jean, in the Kittitas home, include his sons, Stephen (Becky) of Kittitas, Paul (Luwana) of Spokane and Jerry (Judy) of Selah; daughters, Brenda (Perry) Huston of Ellensburg and Kathy Arington and Connie Crews of Yakima; his many grandchildren and their families many nieces and nephews, and his brother, Hugh Arington of Humboldt, Neb.

Services will be at the Kittitas Community Church, Third and Pierce streets, at 1 p.m., Aug. 1. Visitation will precede the service beginning at noon. Burial will follow at the I.O.O.F. Cemetery. Memorials in lieu of flowers may be made to Hospice 302 E. Second Street, Ellensburg WA 98926 or to the Kittitas Community Church, PO Box 537, Kittitas, WA 98934.
