ALAN BRUCE BRINSMADE died the 11th of July 2009, in Houston, Texas. Dr. Brinsmade was born the 10th of September 1925, to Robert Bruce and Helen Steenboch Brinsmade in Mexico City, Mexico. He attended private schools in Mexico, West High School in Madison, Wisconsin, Beloit College, the University of Wisconsin, and the University of Lausanne, Switzerland. At the University of Wisconsin he earned a BA degree, and at the University of Lausanne he earned the Diploma of Medicine and the Docteur en Medicine degrees. Subsequently, he had post-graduate and specialty training at universities and hospitals in Germany, Eire, Spain, Switzerland, Minnesota and Texas. Since 1960, his professional career has included the following: Private practice in Psychiatry in Houston, Texas; Director of Psychiatric Clinic, Jefferson Davis Hospital, 1960-61; Instructor in Psychiatry at Baylor University College of Medicine, 1960-61; Consultant in Psychiatry for Humble Oil and Refining Company, Gulf Oil Corporation, and Southwestern Bell Telephone Company; Attending Physician at The Methodist Hospital and St. Joseph Hospital; and Associate Physician at Hermann Hospital. He had memberships in the American Medical Association, American Psychiatric Association, World Psychiatric Association, Pan-American Medical Society, New York Academy of Science, Texas Medical Association, and Houston Psychiatric Society. During World War II he served in the United States Army. He was a member of the Doctors' Club of Houston and the Petroleum Club of Houston. He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Gloria Wallentine Brinsmade; his brothers Dr. Akbar F. Brinsmade and wife Juanita of Biloxi, Mississippi, and Lyon L. Brinsmade and wife Elizabeth of Wimberley, Texas; sister-in-law Nell Wallentine Epler and husband Robert of Portland, Oregon; and many beloved nieces and nephews. A memorial service will be conducted in the Fall. In lieu of the usual remembrances, memorial contributions may be directed to the Alzheimer's Association , 2242 W. Holcombe Blvd., Houston, Texas 77030-2008.
