Frank Marvin (Bud) Boyd, Jr. - 1925-2002
Frank Marvin (Bud) Boyd, Jr. passed away June 29, 2002, in Speed, Kansas, at the age of 77 years, 4 months and 9 days.
Bud was born on a farm south of Logan, Kansas in Rooks County on February 20, 1925 to Frank and Bernice (Reed) Boyd. He attended the Rockwell and Speed schools. In July of 1943 he entered the Arm, serving thru Wourld War II in the European Theater. He was discharged on November 16, 1945 after receiving the Purple Heart Medal, two Bronze Stars, a good conduct medal and various campaign and services devices.
After being discharged, he returned to Speed to join his father in the family owned construction business. On August 30, 1947, he was united in marriage to Patricia Jean Parker in a ceremony at Stockton, KS. To this loving union three sons were born.
After working for his father, Bud was employed by the D.G. Hanson Construction Company, then as a mail carrier and then with the Logan Farmer's Union Coop. He retired from the Coop in 1985. Bud was a very dedicated employee ad has shared many fond memories of his employment with his children and grandchildren.
He spent retirement reading, managing the family land, hunting and fishing. Bud especially enjoyed the sport and school functions of his grandchildren.
Bud is preceded in death by his wife, Patty, his parents Frank and Bernice Boyd; in-laws Elmer and Leota Parker; a brother Billy Boyd and an infant great-grandaughter, Alexandra Grace Marchand.
He is survived by his three sons and their families - nine grandchildren and six great-grandchildren; a sister Connie Chester and husband Wayne of Glade, KS.; a brother Dennis Reed Boyd, of Speed, KS. and a sister-in-law Gerry Boyd of Olatha, KS. along with numerous nieces and nephews.
Services for "Bud" were held on July 5, 2002 ath the Oliff-Boeve Memorial Chapel in Phillipsburg, KS. with the Rev. Richard Zimmerman officiating.
Music was provided by vocalist Dustin Chester and accompaniest Helen Witmer.
Casket bearers were all family members. Honorary bearers were his friends, grandkids, great-grandkids, Wayne "Pat" Chester and Dean Portenier.
Internment was at Fairview Cemetery in Phillipsburg, KS.
Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice Services, Inc.
Arrangements were by Oliff-Boeve Memorial Chapel
