Joseph Dixon Emmett, is the second born child of 5 children of his parents James Emmett, born in St. Anthony in Roseland, Cornwall, England, and Jane Truran. Joseph emigrated from England to New York between 1871-1872. Wife Anna M. Hugo, born April 1844 Probus, Cornwall, England, and children John James Dixon, Elizabeth Jane, and Alfred (these children were born in Probus, Cornwall, England) all left Liverpool, England, and arrived in N.Y. on October 15, 1872, Joseph is not with them. Daughter's Elizabeth Emmett, born in Probus, England in 1864 and died date not known, and Mary Jane Hugo Emmett age 3 died in 1866 in Probus, Cornwall England. Other children born in Carbondale, Pa. where George, Henry, and William H. Joseph came to Carbondale presumably for employment in Coal mining.

Joseph's Siblings remained in Cornwall, England, Elizabeth Ann Emmett, Richard Emmett, George Henry Emmett and James Trewhella Emmett. His brother my great great grandfather, James Trewhella Emmett had a daughter Elizabeth Jane Emmett, she had a son William Henry Emmett who is my paternal grandfather who immigrated to N.Y. in 1912 and lived in Butte, Montana, and later moved to Nanticoke, Luzerne county, PA.,in 192., when I was younger I didn't know we had relatives in Carbondale, Lackawanna county, PA, until 2008. Now I wonder if these Emmett cousins told my grandfather about coal mining in PA., and that was one of the reason why he came to Nanticoke, instead of Butte, Montana. Later, he settled in Plymouth, Luzerne Co., Pa.,

Joseph's wife Anna dies on June 26, 1894 and is buried at Maplewood Cemetery, Cemetery Street in Carbondale, and both reside at 36 Clark Avenue, Carbondale, Pa. she is age 50 at the time of her death, cause of death is Heart Disease. Joseph dies of pneumonia at age 62, and is buried February 2, 1905, at Maplewood Cemetery. I don't know at this time if they have a family burial plot.

Resources; Carbondale Historical Societies, burial records, death certificates and census records.
