Ira L. Wilcox was born in New York state April 27, 1833; died Sept. 20th, 1903 aged 70 years, 4 months and 4 days.
He was the youngest of five children born to Simon Gates and second wife Phebe Cartwright Wilcox. His father Simon and first wife Anna Cartwright Wilcox had seven children. Ira moved to Pennsylvania with his parents as a child. He was united in marriage to Mary E. Andrews in 1851,Tioga Co., Pa township of Delmar to this union was born eight children. In 1855 he united with the Baptist Church. He moved to Ill. in 1867, from there to Riley , Riley Co.,Kansas in 1870, Mary E. Wilcox died in 1873. He was then united in marriage to Mrs. Jane Robins Hare in 1874; to this union was born two children. Jane Wilcox died in 1878.. He was united in marriage to Mrs. Louisa Oren Simmons in 1881; to this union was born one child which died in infancy. He was a member of Methodist Episcopal church. He leaves a wife and five children of the first union and two of the second to mourn his death. He was a kind and loving husband and father, he was ever patient in his long suffering; his death not a hard one for his body was ready and willing to meet his maker.
