William Brannen, born in Ireland in the latter half of the 18th century and his wife, Elizabeth Gross, moved their church letters from Nevils Creek to Lower Lotts Creek in 1811. Their 12 children comprise the earliest Brannen family in Bulloch county. The graves of William and Elizabeth are believed to be located under the present-day church.

A memorial to William and Elizabeth Gross Brannen was dedicated in Lower Lotts Creek Cemetery on September 24, 2011 by members of the Brannen family.
