Marle Owen Abshere, 97, left this life on Monday, October 17, 2011, in Fort Worth, TX.

Born in Fort Cobb, OK, on March 4, 1914, to Hattie & Mont Abshere, Marle outlived all five younger siblings and their spouses: Maurice & Bernie Abshere, Louise & Bob Bounds, Doty & Rusty Ballew, Lynn and Marion Abshere, and Bernice Abshere.

He graduated from Anadarko Business College, later became an instructor, and then owner. Served one year in the Army in '40-'41, married Kathleen Haws on a week's notice, then went to work for Capitol Steel & Iron Co. After Pearl Harbor, he served two years in the Navy in the South Pacific. Daughter Nancy and son Philip were born in '45 and '47. They moved to Hobbs, NM, in 1950. He worked as an accountant for Hobbs Medical Group for six years, then for Abshere Bookkeeping Service until '64, when the Absheres returned to OKC and Capitol Steel. Retired in '82 after 28 years of service as secretary-treasurer and part-owner.

In Hobbs he was active in Southern Heights Methodist Church (chaired the building committee and was longtime treasurer), Boy Scouts and Explorers (leader), and Lion's Club (past president and Lion of the Year). In OKC he was active in Westminster Presbyterian Church, Uptown Kiwanis (past president), OKCG & CC, OKC Chamber of Commerce, Nat'l. Assn. of Credit Management (past president), Sooner Dinner Club, Mayfair Dance Club, Civic Music Assn., Listeners Book Club, and numerous other civic, social, and political groups.

Marle's wife of 62 years, Kathleen, died in 2002. During her lifetime, they and their very close friends Lawrence & Doretha VanHorn traveled to more than 80 countries and all 50 states.

Survivors include daughter, Nancy K. Plattsmier and her husband Don of Fort Worth, TX; son, Col Philip M. Abshere and his wife LCDR Beverly Abshere of Albuquerque, NM; former daughter-in-law, Debbie Abshere of Edmond, OK; grandchildren: Amy Plattsmier and her husband Jason Gonsky, Amanda and her husband Matt Lipstein, David Plattsmier, Alison Abshere, Erin and her husband Ryan Rogalin, and Mark Abshere; great-grandchildren, Shiloh and Tallulah Gonsky, and Theo and Nola Lipstein; numerous cousins, nieces, nephews, grand-nieces and grand-nephews; the VanHorn sons and their families; and many treasured friends.

A memorial celebration of Marle's life took place at Westminster Presbyterian Church on Saturday, October 29, 2011, at 2:00 p.m.
