Lyda Mae Crownover was born to James Lee Crownover and Arlena Stella Hargrove on Dec. 23, 1909. She lived in Clyde, Tx with her parents 4 brothers, and 3 sisters. Lyda Mae lost her parents to TB. She was sent to Fort Sumner, NM at age 12 yrs to live with older sister, Alma Cook. At age 18 she met and married Walter R Brown. They married on Dec. 19, 1927 in Fort Sumner, NM. Lyda Mae worked alongside of Walter all of their married life. Lyda Mae cooked for Walter and cowboys out of a chuck wagon on many long cattle drives. They had and raised 8 children along the way, Doris Ann (deceased), Jack Harlin (deceased), Barbara Lee, Betty Joan, Kathy Sue, Buster Lee, Linda Lou, and Alma Frances. Lyda Mae was a great mother and wife. She loved people, cherished her friends and her family. She passed away in Ruidoso, NM on Sept. 23,1991, and buried in Fort Sumner, NM on Sept. 26, 1991. Mr. Bob West, a dear friend officiated. She has once again gone to be by Walter's side for eternity.
