Robert Albyn Charlton peacefully passed away on Thursday, Aug. 28, in Vancouver, Wash., at his home with his family at his side. Born on April 30, 1923, in Eureka, Calif., to William and Hazel Charlton, Robert was 85 years old. Robert was a Veteran of the U.S. Army during World War II for two years. In the 1980s, he moved to Brown's Valley, Calif. He retired from Government Island in 1996. Robert is survived by his wife, Darla Charlton of Browns Valley, Calif.; brothers, John Charlton of Chowchilla and Don Charlton of Fortuna; children, Mildred Clark of Vancouver, Susan and Greg Stoneham of Bangor, Calif., Blaine and Jerryanne Charlton of Elko, Nev., and Jerry and Tonya Charlton of Browns Valley; 13 grandchildren ; 15 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild. He is proceeded in death by his first wife Christina Charlton; mother and father, William and Hazel Charlton; brother William Charlton; and sister, Susan Miller. Graveside service will be held at Ferndale Cemetery with full military honors on Sept. 13 at 1 p.m. followed by a reception at the Seventh Day Adventist church at 2331 Rohnerville Road, Fortuna, after graveside service for family and friends.
