He was named for his mother, Caroline Augusta Greene 1806-1833. She was born and died in Rhode Island. Her son and husband removed to Southern Indiana when Charles was about five years old. He was raised by his step mother, Mary Graves, and his nine half siblings in New Albany, IN (just across the river from Louisville, KY) where he married and raised his family.
