BABBISH, Sister Mary Antonia - A Dominican Sister of San Rafael for 60 years, died on Feburary 4, 2000, at Lourdes Convent in San Rafael after a long illness. She was 92 years of age. Sister Antonia, a native of Pennsylvania and one of 13 children, entered the Dominican Sister with a background in business. For 14 years she managed the Dominican College kitchen. She then worked in the Dominican Convent business office, serving as General Bursar until 1970. Following that position, Sister Antonia ministered at St. Rose Academy, San Francisco, St. Mary's Hospital, Bishop Manogue High School, the Diocesan School Office in Reno, and the National Sisters Formation Conference in Washington, D.C. Over the years, Sister Antonia also volunteered in assisting pilgrims at the Lourdes Shrine in France. Due to weakened health, Sister Antonia moved to Lourdes Convent in 1992.
Sister Antonia is survived by her brother, Charles A. Babbish, Jr., of Tamaqua, Pa., and several nieces and nephews.
The funeral Mass will be held on Wednesday, Feb. 9, 2000 at the Dominican Sisters Center, 1520 Grand Avenue, San Rafael, at 7:00 p.m. Burial will be on Thursday, Feb. 10, 2000 at St. Dominic Cemetery in Benecia.
