Paul Pedersen Alton was born on June 20, 1883 to Peder Christiansen and Ingeborg Olsdatter (Hogsveen) Alton in the Township of Sumner, Barron County, Wisconsin. The youngest of six children. Traveling Pastors would come to the Canton area to meet the needs of the people. Records indicate that Paul was baptized on September 20, 1883, at Pokagama Creek. Which was in the Canton, Wisconsin area. Sponsors were Jens and Johanne Johannesen Traaseth, Simon Brien and Agnette Brein (Simon's daughter). He was baptized on the same day and place as Simon Peder Olsen, the son of Carl and Christina (Brein) Olsen. His sponsors were Andrew and Julie Mortrude, Pauline Brien and Peder Olsen.


Paul married Emilia "Millie" Margarethe Bandli on June 12, 1912 in an outdoor ceremony. Paul had purchased an organ for his niece Olga Fliflet to play for the wedding, they moved it outside for the event. They were farmers. To their union three children were born. Frances Margaret, Theodore Charles and Kathryn Jean.


Frances was born on April 12, 1913. She became a teacher. She died of pneumonia a day after her birthday on April 13, 1937. She was unmarried and had just turned 24.


Theodore "Ted" was born January 3, 1915. He married Edna Mork. They were dairy farmers in the Township of Sumner for many years. Also raised turkeys and chickens. There were eleven children in the family. Sharon, Dawn, Mary, Marlys, Charles, Russell, Michael, Jerry, Terry, Craig and Keith.


Kathryn was born March 21, 1917. She married Scott Tiffany. He was a wholesale lumber dealer. They had six children. Jerome, Calvin, Kathleen, Carol, Carmen and David.

Paul Alton, 69, Dies

RICE LAKE- Paul Alton, 69, died at the hospital here Monday after a brief illness. The retired farmer had lived in Cameron until 1945 when he moved here. 

Funeral services were conducted by Dr. Wendel Taylor at 2 p.m. Thursday in the Rice Lake Methodist Church. Interment was in Pioneers Rest Cemetery in the Town of Sumner. 

  Surviving are his wife, Millie, a son, Theodore, Canton; a daughter, Mrs. Scott (Kathryn) Tiffany, Pepin; a sister, and a brother, Mrs. Martin (Anne) Rude and Christ both of Rice Lake.

Paul Alton, a successful farmer of Section 5, Sumner Township, was born on the home place in Section 7, this township, June 20, 1883, the son of Peter and Ingeborg Alton, early settlers. He was reared on the home place, attended the district schools, and learned farming from his parents. In 1912, he bought his present place of 80 acres. The farm was developed to a certain extent, and he has continued the improvements. He has erected a slightly modern home, put an addition on the barn, and erected two new silos. Here he successfully carries on general farming, and pays particular attention to a good herd of Jersey cattle. He takes an active part in the affairs of the community, and believes in progress and betterment along all lines. He is a stockholder in the Shipping Association.
