Charles Lawrence Shaffer, 55, of 1710 Frances, died this morning in his home. The city ambulance crew was called and attempted to revive him, but he was pronounced dead by a physician.
He was employed as a plater by C.G. Conn for 25 years, until he purchased the Elkhart Silver Plating Co. on North Michigan in 1945. He operated the business until 1953, when he suffered a stroke which forced him to retire.
He was born June 14, 1901, in Ligonier. On June 2, 1923, he married Bonnie Adams.
Surviving with his wife is a sister, Mrs. Arlo Monschein, Otsego, Mich.
Friends may call after 7 o'clock tonight at the White Funeral Home, where services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday. The Rev. Kenneth E. Trueman, curate of St. John's Episcopal church, will be in charge. Burial will be in Rice Cemetery.
