Ridge Man's Body Found Near Stream
OAK RIDGE, June 20 (Special)
An Oak Ridge woman and her niece, while strolling in a cool wooded area this afternoon, were startled to see the body of a man sprawled near a little stream.
Mrs. Marese Nephew and the niece, Carol Burr, hurried back to tell Mrs. Nephew's husband, Edmund Nephew, who called police.
The man was identified as Floyd H. Alvis, 47, of 152 Lattimer Rd. Deputy Coroner C. T. Vettel said Mr. Alvis had apparently been dead seven or eight hours. Death was believed due to heart seizure, but Mr. Vettel was still investigating tonight.
Mr. Alvis had taken his wife, Tennie, to work and officers believe he then went back to the stream to find lizards for fish bait, as he had done before. The body was found about 4 p.m. and was taken to Rose's.
Mr. Alvis had been in Oak Ridge 14 years, a "pioneer" of the atomic city. He was formerly a bus and truck driver for Union Carbide at the Y-12 plant. He leaves his wife (Tennie) and three children, Mrs. Bob (Edith) Barker, William and Eileen Alvis.
