MEMORIAL SERVICE TRIBUTE TO

VIRGINIA (JINX) WARE CRITTENDEN

BY EMILY CRITTENDEN

As I look out on all of the wonderful friends and precious healthcare personnel here today, I know Jinx would want me to tell you that she loved you and to thank you for coming. And we thank you for joining us this afternoon as we pay tribute to the great lady who was the beautiful mother, grandmother, and great grandmother to our family. We are gathered to celebrate her life and, most importantly, to give praise to God for her.

Jinx Crittenden was blessed to have been born the youngest child of Reverend and Mrs. Wilkerson Linwood Ware and to have grown up with a firm foundation of faith in a very special family. That faith sustained her throughout her entire life and was her source of wonderful consolation in these last years.

Jinx was married to Thomas Crittenden in 1930. They became the proud parents of Bob in 1935 and Barry in 1942 before Tom departed to serve in World War II. When Tom passed away in 1952, Jinx assumed full responsibility for all her family's needs. She courageously accepted that role. In time she gained 2 daughters-in-law, 4 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren. Just a couple of weeks ago, she learned that twin great-grandchildren are expected by her granddaughter Vanessa and husband Lewis.

Jinx was a great success with all her family by simply being herself. She taught us by her own wonderful example. She was full of light, and laughter, and fun. She exuded a joy of life that was positively irrepressible. She developed her creative talents, and cultivated friends like a garden of flowers. She saw loveliness in everything and greeted each new day with happy expectation.

Jinx wasn't concerned with doing great things. She simply did everyday things in a great way and, as a result, she transformed the ordinary things in life into the memorable and the unforgettable. Life for her was an omnipresent opportunity to delight in happenings, in the beauty of the world around her, in the pleasure of friends, and in service to her family.

Her family, for sure, was the focus of her life. Her service to us was a labor of love. We knew she was there every moment to put us first. We were always received with exuberant expressions of happiness and welcomed with more enthusiasm than any royal family ever received! Her home was sparkling, fresh flowers were her signature, and delectable food waited to be served. That was her way of saying "I love you. You're cherished from the bottom of my heart!"

We couldn't have felt more rich or been more blessed. She gave us everything that mattered. We were foremost in her life. Indeed, we were treasured. And we treasured her!

We learned truthfulness, respect, integrity, kindness, commitment, and love by watching her. We were motivated by the faith she had in us. And we caught her awesome incredible spirit of joy every time we were in her presence or heard her voice on the phone.

Yes, she left us a marvelous legacy. We can smile always because we were so richly blessed. There will be a song in our hearts forever because of Jinx!

PRAYER OF THANKSGIVING

Dear Heavenly Father, we praise you and glorify and magnify your name this day for the great blessing of Jinx Crittenden. We thank you, Lord, that she was your gift to us – to teach us, and love us and bring security, light, fullness and happiness into our lives.

Lord, we thank you for all the wonderful people whose loving attention and care ministered to Jinx in the last period of her life. Bless them as only you can.

Father, we thank you, above everything, that you sent your Son to be our Savior, and that He called Jinx to be your child and promised that a great preparation had been made for her arrival in Heaven some day!

Thank you, Blessed Lord, that your Holy Word will stand forever and that You tell us in Your word that "Eye has not seen - neither has it entered into the heart of man the things that you have prepared for those who love you". We praise you, Oh! we praise you, for that glorious Revelation so that in such a time as this - with assurance - our hearts can truly rejoice!

In Jesus' Holy Name we pray. Amen.
