Came to America with her father John Jones and her step-mother. Wile in Kansas City train station waiting to go to Arvonia, her father disappeared when he went to buy the tickets, leaving Mary Ann, 2 brothers and her step mother. People of Arvonia contributed money to get them to Arvonia. Her step mother soon abandonded the family. Mary Ann cleaned houses for people to support herself.
