Hixon C. Lee died at his home in Eastman on Wednesday, June 24th, at 11 o'clock am. Mr. Lee was born in South Carolina July 15th, 1822, and lived there until he was 12 years of age, when he moved with his parents to Georgia, where he has lived ever since. Mr. Lee was married in 1847 to Miss Martha McCrea, daughter of Gustavus McCrea, of Twiggs County, who survives him. The issue of this marriage was eleven children, six of whom are still living. Mr. Lee joined the Baptist church when about thirty years of age, and remained a member of the same until his death. He was a Deacon of the church for a number of years; he lived a consistent Christian life; he always held family prayers. Mr. Lee was a citizen of Cochran for a number of years, where he gained a host of friends. He was liked by nearly all who knew him. I say nearly all, for no man can be liked by all; even our Savior, who was perfect, was not. Mr. Lee moved to Eastman in 1886, and lived here until his death. His remains were carried to Cochran and interred in Weeping Pine Cemetery, Thursday, June 25th. Mr. Lee leaves one brother, Mr. T.E. Lee of Abbeville, Ga.; and one sister, Mrs. W.F. Rogers of Rome, Ga; a wife and six children: Mr. S.A. Lee of Abbeville, Mr. John F. Lee of Pulaski County, Mrs. T.P. Newman, Mrs. C.G. Brown, Mr. Jesse W. Lee and Mrs. J.C. Sheldon of Eastman to mourn his loss, but we feel that our loss is Heaven's gain.
