Gene Alendal, 88, husband of Lena, died Saturday, May 7, 2011 at the Pioneer Memorial Nursing Home, Viborg. Funeral services will be at 1:00pm Tuesday, May 10, 2011 at Bethany Lutheran Church, Viborg with burial in the Holland Cemetery, Centerville. Visitation will begin at 2:00pm Monday at the Hofmeister-Jones Funeral Chapel, Hurley with a Prayer Service at 7:30pm Monday evening.

Eugene Arthur Alendal was born on February 6, 1923 at Viborg, SD to Arthur and Ellie (Lauridsen) Alendal. He went all 12 years to school in Viborg and graduated from Viborg High School in 1941. On July 16, 1944 he was united in marriage to Lena Glanzer at Bethany Lutheran Church, Viborg. They lived in Kansas City for 50 years, where he was employed by Braniff Airlines for 30 years, retiring in 1981. They moved to Hurley in 2002. He was a member of Bethany Lutheran Church, Viborg.

Grateful for having shared his life are his wife Lena; a sister Marilyn (Leland) Hult, Sioux Falls; a Godchild, Michelle Peterson Gholl, Minneapolis, MN; a special grand dog, Zoe; and many special friends and family. He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister and brother-in-law, Beverly and Warren Rundell.

In lieu of flowers memorials may be directed to the Bethany Lutheran Church, Viborg or the Ambulance Service in Hurley or Viborg.
