Charles Warren Carlson obituary
b. 17 Dec 1860 in Sodra Rada, Vaarmland, S, SE. He immigrated in 1866 to Jackson township, Boyer River, Crawford County, Iowa. He was also known as Carl Johan Petersson on 17 Dec 1859 (later used 1860 DOB). He appeared in the June 1880 Census for Stockholm Township, Crawford County, Iowa. In 1893, he was living in Sioux City, Woodbury Co., Iowa. Charles married Emma Lovisa Johannesdotter Larson on 18 March 1885 in Kiron Crawford County, Iowa.

Along with his father Peter Carlson (Petter Carlsson), Charles was one of the first Swedish settler in Otter Creek Valley, Peter having come from Swedevend, Webster County, Iowa, in covered wagons and driving ox teams. In the summer of 1869, in the community around Kiron, Charles and his father Peter along with other Swede families built the first dugout homes in the area which they owned and occupied.

Mr. Carlson farmed in the Bronson area and also for a time had a soda fountain in Bronson, later the Bronson tavern.

Mr. Carlson is survived by his daughters, Alma Mabel Carlson Moore (Dr. Dudley), Lisa Myrtle Carlson Smith (Oliver Joseph), sons Arthur Robert Carlson (Minnie), and Jesse Warren Carlson. Preceding him in death was his wife, Emma Louisa who died 17 Feb 1934, son, Charles Vernon Carlson who died 2 June 1950 and his parents Peter Carlson (Petter Carlsson)and Anna Mary Johnson (Anna Maria Jakobsdotter). Both parents are buried in Kiron Cemetery, Kiron, Iowa.

Burial is in Graceland Cemetery.
