Ensign James Valek, 24, youngest son of Mr. and Mrs. Antone Valek of Jamesport, was killed in an automobile accident in California. It is ironic that he should have met his death in this way, after having been on active duty in the United States Navy for nearly six years, seen action on both the Atlantic and Pacific oceans, and having been on board the U.S.S. Wasp when it was sunk in the Coral Sea area. It had been his intention to return to sea duty soon. Ensign Valek was one of three brothers serving in the United States Navy. Antone Valek Jr. has been officially listed as missing for neatly two years. Ensign John Valek is presently on duty in the Pacific area.
