Al grew up in Crookston, Minnesota as one of eight children. He was 100% Norwegian blood.. His father was Simon Steenerson and his mother was Julia Grovum. He came to Oklahoma as a teen to live with his older sister, Tinka Olson Long. He was a lover of motorcycles and didn't own a car until he was thirty years old. WWII came along and Elden "Al" served in the U S Navy, being in the South Pacific for 4 years, as the battle for that area was fought.
He worked all his life as a truck driver and member of Teamsters #886.
He married Kay McElhaney April 6, 1960 and they had two sons Christopher Lee & Eric Ian Steenerson.
He was a popular square dance caller and teacher for 22 years. At one time he called for six Square Dance Clubs. Three in Oklahoma City, three others in Jones, Kingfisher &
Enid, Oklahoma.He was noted for his singing style calls. He was an artist in wood and stained glass. Al was a man who always had a project going. He and his father-in law built a cabin and Sand Point, Lake Texhoma. Before that he owned a boat house called Villa Aqua on Little Glasses, Lake Texhoma. Al was a great husband and worked hard to give his sons a good life. He was a doting grandfather to Shawn Falk & Aaron M Steenerson. In retirement he loved to go to Flea Markets. He had a booth at the Public Market in Oklahoma City. He was a very smart person and liked hard crossword puzzles. A Movie buff and loved to go to he movies. He was very good with finances. He had a great sense of humor and yet a stoic Norwegian nature. We miss him every day and all he added to our lives.
