Asa L. Bennett, 64, of Nucla passed away at his home August 6. He was born December 18, 1913 to William Lee Bennett and Noma Wood Bennett. Asa Bennett spent his lifetime in Nucla where he attended school and worked on the CC Ditch since he was twelve years old. He was superintendent of the Colorado Cooperative Ditch Co., a member of the Nucla Naturita Fire Department, a member of Moose Lodge 635 of Nucla and served on the Montrose Memorial Hospital Board for twenty-one years.

He married Nellie Rice on November 21, 1934 in Grand Junction and his occupation was farmer. His wife survives.

Children living are: Mrs. Phillip (Betty) Reed of Nucla, Leland Bennett of Norwood, Bonsal Bennett of Cromberg, California, Mrs. Kenneth (Bonnie) Short of Carbondale, Mrs. Dewey (Elaine) King of Redstone and Mrs. Hazel Baker of Craig. Also surviving is one brother, Steve Bennett of Nucla and Asa's Mother, Noma Bennett of Montrose. There are twenty grandchildren and six great grandchildren.

The family request that donations be given to the Nucla Naturita Ambulance Fund in care of John Weaver of Naturita, Colorado 81422.

Services for Asa Bennett will be held at the Nucla Moose Lodge 635 on Friday, Aug 11, at 2 p.m. with Rev. Lloyd Young officiating. Interment will be in the Nucla Cemetery. Graveside rites will be my the Nucla Naturita Moose Lodge 635. Funeral arrangements by Sumner's Valley Funeral Home of Montrose.
