ESCONDIDO - John Altman, 83, died Saturday, Aug. 25, 2001, at Palomar Medical Center.

Born July 24, 1918, in Chicago, he lived in Escondido for 23 years. He retired in 1964 as an electronic technician for Bell Telephone Systems.

Mr. Altman was preceded in death by his wife, Arlene Hay Altman, in 1951 and three brothers.

He is survived by his sons, Brian Altman of Springfield, Ill., and John Altman Jr. of Sulphur, Okla.; daughter and son-in-law Sandra Altman-Stilling and Jerry Stilling of Sparks, Nev.; nine grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.

A private memorial is planned at Ross, Burke and Knobel Mortuary in Sparks, Nev. A private cremation with burial at Our Mother of Sorrows Cemetery in Reno, Nev., is planned.

Alhiser-Comer Mortuary is handling arrangements.
