Robert was born in Dodge County, Minnesota to Phidelus and Sarah (Elias) Abel. When he was 13 months old his father passed away, leaving his mother to support him. When he was 11 years old his mother married Perkins Barnes, he also passed away, again leaving his mother Sarah to support the two of them.
Robert lst married Inez Wheeler on October 18, 1897 and they had sons George, Roy K, Vernon, and Clarence; daughters Blanch (Miller) Grace (Miller) Lola (Chambers). 2nd He married Augusta Rhodes.
Robert died November 25, 1964 and is buried near his mother, Sarah and his wife, Inez at the Concord cemetery.
