Jane Allen (Linn) Gale was the daughter of Milman Hart Linn and Jane Davey (Smith) Linn. She studied English in college and taught English at West Muskingum High School. She also served on the Zanesville City Schools Board of Education and was active in many civic organizations. She was an avid weaver and taught the skill to her children. Her relatives and friends remember her as a warm and gracious hostess.

Deborah GaleJane Linn Gale, 97, died Feb. 1, 2008, at the Helen Purcell Home. She was born July 8, 1910, the daughter of Milman Hart Linn and Jane Smith Linn. She married Kenneth M. Gale on Sept. 24, 1938. A graduate of Abbot Academy, Andover, Mass., and Ohio State University. She served on the Zanesville City Board of Education and on the Advisory Board of Ohio University at Zanesville. She served as temporary librarian for OUZ. She was one of the first teachers in the Title I program in the Zanesville City schools. She attended Berea College, Berea, Ky., to study handweaving, and taught the craft at the Zanesville Art Institute located on Adair Avenue. She was a member of the Trinity United Presbyterian Church, a member of the Pioneer & Historical Society, she researched early American gardens and aided her husband, a director of the society, in creating memorial flower and herb gardens adjacent to the Dr. Increase Matthews House. Gale Garden, located behind their longtime residence at 828 Adair Ave., was a gift to the community from Jane and Kenneth Gale. She held memberships in the Beaux Art Club, the Junior Bethesda League, the Pioneer & Historical Society, and the All Around Club. Surviving are a son and three daughters, Kenneth Allen Gale and his wife Krystyn of Oceanside, Ca., Linn Gale McGlade and her husband Keith of West Hartford, Conn., Dana Gale Williams and her husband Roger of Carmel, Ind., and Deborah Gale Griesmyer and her husband Donald of McConnelsville, Ohio. She also is survived by 10 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren. Preceding her in death were her parents; her husband; and three brothers, Francis, Milman and Vincent Linn. No calling hours will be observed. A memorial service will be held at a later date. The Bryan & Snider Funeral Home, 2318 Maple Ave., is assisting the family. Memorial contributions may be made to Trinity United Presbyterian Church, Pioneer & Historical Society, the Zanesville Art Center or the Helen Purcell Home. Bryan Snider Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
