R. N. Ellis was from a prominent family in Greenville. He was a Private in Company B. of the 2nd Reg. Georgia Vol. Infantry. This Regiment was known as "The Jackson Blues". It fought in almost every battle with the Army of Northern Virginia, including Antietam and Gettysburg. Ref: Roster of Confederate Soldiers of Georgia, 1861-1865. This Company was formed in Meriwether County. He enlisted July 1861 and surrendered at Appomattox with General Lee. He is mentioned in Brooks of Honey and Butter, a book on the history of Meriwether County, Georgia. It says he was a builder in Meriwether County.
