Rita spent her early years and received her education in Brownsville, Texas. In 1915, she, Miss Rita Gonzales and Celedonio Alvarez were married in Brownsville where together they raised their 11 children. Her husband died June 19, 1942 exactly 41 years ago on the same day in Brownsville, Texas. On March 15, 1945 she and her children arrived in Sunnyside from Texas and the family worked throughout this area. She had lived in Outlook for the past 15 years.

She was a member of the Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church of Granger.

Survivors are seven daughters, Mrs Celedonia (Sally) Robles, Mrs. Angel (Demetria) Morales, Mrs. Mense (Paula) Guerra, Mrs. Refugio(Petra) Cardenas, Mrs. Ignacio (Siria) Limon, Mrs. Fernando (Gigi) Gatica, and Mrs. Gilbert (Rosie) Gomez; four sons Andres, Ramon, Luis, and Cande Alvarez. She is also survived by 52 grandchildren, 85 great-grandchildren. and four great great grandchildren.

Two sisters Mrs. Concepcion(Concha)Ramos and Mrs. Santos Lozano. one brother, Julian Torres and several nieces and nephews also survive. Besides her husband, she is preceded in death by two children, Maria Magdelena Alvarez and Manuel Alvarez; two sisters and one brother.
