John R. Cumpston
83, of Massillon, passed away Friday, Sept. 9, 2011 at the Shady Lawn Nursing Home, Dalton, Ohio. He was born Oct. 4, 1927 in Clarksburg, W.Va. to the late John and and Minnie Cumpston. He served with the U.S. Army during World War II and was later employed as Lift Truck driver for the Timken Company, retiring in 1979 after 27 years of service. He was a loyal member of the Anchor Baptist Church.
John is survived by his loving wife, June (Hickman) Cumpston to whom he was married in 1949; his sons, John (Barbara) Cumpston of North Lawrence, Ohio, Steven (Pamela) Cumpston of Mt. Eaton, Ohio; daughters, Rebecca (David) Heinzeroth of Beach City, Ohio, Beth Betts of Canton; 13 grandchildren; two great- grandchildren; and his brother, James Cumpston of North Industry. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Marilyn Cumpston in 1971.
Funeral services will be conducted at 1 p.m. Monday at the Anchor Baptist Church with Pastor Mark Jacobs officiating. Calling hours will be Sunday from 2-5 p.m. at the Reed Funeral Home Canton and Monday from 12 noon-1 p.m. at the church. Burial will be at Sunset Hills Burial Park.
