SHELBYVILLE -- Paul Douglas Bland Sr., 81, died Tuesday, Feb. 8, 2011, at his residence.
Born in Bagdad, he was the son of the late Willis Leland and Amanda Frances Samples Bland.
As a U.S. Army veteran, Mr. Bland was stationed in Anchorage, Alaska, during the Korean Conflict. His military service continued in the U.S. Army Reserves, where he retired as first sergeant of the 100th Division. He was also a retired employee of General Electric. Mr. Bland was a member of Evangel World Center of Louisville; a former member of the Shelbyville Volunteer Fire Department; and a member of the Republican Party.
Survivors include sons Charles Berry of Louisville, Timothy Berry of Frankfort and Paul Douglas Bland II of Shelbyville; daughters Deanie Quire, Lorie Jackson and Amy Likes, all of Shelbyville; and nine grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Bland was preceded in death by his wife of 49 years,
Yvonne Joyce Norman Bland, and 12 brothers and sisters.
The funeral is 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Hall-Taylor Funeral Home, with the Rev. Jimmy Bland and the Rev. Charles Berry officiating. Interment will follow in Bagdad Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4 until 8 p.m Friday at Hall-Taylor.
